Hip Hop has played a defining role in the growth of the Air Force One popularity. During the 80's, as Hip Hop became more recognized, so did the air force 1 low. It was typical to see and entertainer rapping on the microphone while wear a pair of his Air Force Ones. Many upcoming artists rose to the top while wearing and rapping about their Air Force 1. The first Nike shoe with Air Technology was the Nike Tailwind, produced in 1979. Once the design had proved to be successful, it was then applied to their Basketball line. In 1984, the first big wave of production of the air force one mid took place. Consumers suddenly began to change their perspective as they began craving Nike's new baby, nike air force 1Perhaps because the Men's Nike AF1 Bird's Nest Shoes were hard to come by, but for whatever reason, the demand for them grew, and eventually Nike began producing more colorways and even more types of the shoe. The entire Air Force marketing strategy was aimed at the east coast of the U.S. , and the demand for them spread like wildfire to the rest of the world.
