Adam Soto was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy at age 10. He walked with a limp in high school. He uses a wheelchair. But with a little "bling" and a big dream, Soto has realized that his disability can't hold him back from his passion.

The 21-year-old launched his first clothing line, Sofa, last summer, right out of his far East Side Aurora home. The streetwear label is known for its poppin' graphics, eye-catching hoodies and tight knit beanies.

"We all do things to fit in," he says. "I walked with a funny limp and when people would look down at my feet, I thought I'd give them something nice to look at." One pair of popular Nike shoes grew into several, and it wasn't long before Soto became a serious sneaker collector.
He was mostly interested in creating one-of-a-kind shoes, though.

"I wanted to be able to customize and design my own sneakers," he said. "It had always been a dream of mine."

So he creates. He prints. He sells and ships. And he does it all from his wheelchair with the help of modern technology, his family and friends. His T-shirts are printed in his basement from the laptop computer on his dining room table.

"It's work, but at the end of the day, I love it," he said.

His latest T-shirt, nodded, cool children rap songs ", "a penny for all these shoes" who picked up a pair of Nike air Foamposites copper. The T-shirt is "a penny" during a penny "on the sofa, we trust."

Soto sells his streetwear line mostly on the Web, at www.af1star.com. Some of his special edition T-shirts are available at Jugrnaut, a retail store in Chicago.

"We strive to bring a more relaxing and almost casual vibe to a very busy streetwear industry," he said.

Sofa brand will debut its new line this spring. Soto hopes to expand his streetwear line -- which Soto defines as urban, edgy and upbeat with roots in hip-hop and skateboarding -- while he finishes up his business studies at College of DuPage.

"I'm still growing. I'm just doing this out of my home," Soto said. "My main goal is to open up my own printing and apparel shop."

Right now, he says, "It's a hobby that I'd like to make a career."
